We have some new samples off the Roland Fantom Sampler.

We have developed a nice "Groove/Elastic" hybrid patch to get long smooth decays from the shorter samples like marimba, kalimba, even tabla.

Since ULTRA will be crowded, I am also developing some "auto-hooks" to shorten samples as density increases in the SForest.

It consists of a number of cylindrical 9" diameter columns, each 8 feet high. Each column contains a series of photo-sensors, audio speaker, LED cone-light and star-strobe. By strolling among the columns, people trigger the photo-sensors, which activates the light and an ever-changing “sound score” of melodic tones, environmental sounds and spoken text.

"Subterranean Rainbow" was initiated to help solve the design problem of encouraging students and faculty not to cross the state highway and to use this new pedestrian tunnel.
But, while I feel it is the role of design to solve problems, it is the role of art to ask questions. So my interest is to make the passageway that is not just a transition space, but a destination place of creative play, a new place for creative interaction at all hours of the day and night, especially on a college campus.

As part of my "Urban Musical Instrument" series, my interest is to create an icon for Hendrix College and the city of Conway, to create a place that encourages social interaction in public spaces, a truly "open classroom."Christopher Janneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13096632228852029395noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2709606489160706353.post-1698252396006724732009-12-21T18:56:00.000-05:002009-12-21T18:56:53.991-05:00"The professional keeps his eye on the doughnut and not on the hole. "Sonic Forest: Redmond" will be located in the Center Plaza of Redmond Town Center, Northeast 76th Street & 166th Avenue Northeast in Redmond, Washington. For more information, visit www.redmondartsfestival.com.

I am also currently working on score for the Boston Ballet piece "Sonic Shadow". Helen Pickett will be the choreographer. We plan to do some kind of demo in January in Boston. Let me know if any of you want to come.

Also developing the color scheme for the new Miami Airport project mentioned in my last blog post. I'm planning to make a presentation in Miami in early January.

Last we're finishing up the Hendrix College proposal currently titled "Subterranean Rainbow". I'm thinking a lot about the history of light environments from Castel's color organ in 1743 to Zappa's performance with the Joshua Light Show in 1968.
This comes with the news that our music studio is now set up with a great 5:1 mix environment and we've solved the problem of how to author HD and 5:1 surround to Blu Ray.

I'm now working with Eddie Grenga/Handsome Brothers Music on some interesting commercial music projects.

Also starting this week, you can follow Janney Sound on twitter.Christopher Janneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13096632228852029395noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2709606489160706353.post-54016149535365475642009-06-18T11:17:00.000-04:002009-06-18T13:12:29.761-04:00Resin Color StudiesI've been back in the dirt studio working on a set of resin
sculptures. These studies are made from mixing transparent colors
into resin and pour them into troughs. I cast the forms and shape
them when they are in a "rubber" state; trying to make "physical
color." Very Giacometti/plaster studies idea, also elements of
improvisation, since I only have so much time until they are too
hard. These often happens after a big color glass project (Forth
Worth "Parking in Color"). I am still thinking about the colors and
ideas and refer to these as "after-studies." With the "Internal
Anxiety" series, they are moving out of the "studies" phase and on to
a life of their own. Some sound possibilities are looming, taking up
on my old concept of "Sound Is An Invisible Color." Stay tuned.

Internal Anxiety

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 324px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwAj-smKD0DUYOBW1o0rlLFVCgcVV8CalQd3Q6N7su8FCq0L9OclWqQ_6g2AA3YqFAp2Tp0eUjPDuVrYwGgVJC2_FumeWxam-BddFWAFfMdOkSSMChoh1BLMmjYdDfQ62PFQUNhd2ABnNQ/s400/Internal+Anxiety1B.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348688250632383922" />

Sara Dance

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 292px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJuQ8bgmJEU8GnMLvSUF4JKzV7ceMT9mgcPzmTJ412VAe911KmArtAboKGkAHAvr4Et0Gkw8Sh_s1-_i9jmKdpPjYDlTurZt-M7iC1H8o6lmFB3SdvpX0fguRKBUoX5Hp78dLUuBgh2YbR/s400/SaraDance1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348688389066965042" />

Studio Wall With Displayed Sculptures

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 219px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNvavo77_a7HbBXq6uYgl-MZGqVUqAN0ZzkBY-oP-i5Qq0ePs5Wd0uEqoDCL1yPEtqqZ1ovGmtN99-dsYQvBNgcHVc46jgiVi_16z0Ige_15ONWFL06U51YEskJlRZDZh79ykFY1Iturur/s400/StudioShot6:15:09B.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348688891629788146" />Christopher Janneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13096632228852029395noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2709606489160706353.post-31753639706249598832009-05-27T13:50:00.001-04:002009-05-27T13:52:23.643-04:00Janney NewsJust got back from speaking in Redmond Washington (home of Microsoft and Nintendo).
